Gwent pupils get dressed up for World Book Day

SPECIAL assemblies and non-uniform days took place across Gwent yesterday to celebrate World Book Day.

Pupils at Cwmcarn High School in Caerphilly county started their day listening to costumed staff discussing their favourite children’s books, including James and the Giant Peach and Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl.

Lab in a Lorry brings science to life for Cwmcarn pupils

A MOBILE lab for youngsters visited a Gwent school to help students with science.

Cwmcarn High School took part in the Lab in a Lorry programme, which gives 11-14-year-olds the opportunity to explore science through specially created, interactive experiments.

Islwyn MP visits reopened Cwmcarn High School

CHRIS EVANS MP visited Cwmcarn High School for a special assembly with students to mark its reopening.

After asbestos was found at the school in October 2012, the school underwent £1 million renovation work over fears pupils’ and teachers’ health could be affected.

A south Wales school which closed 14 months ago after asbestos was discovered has reopened. Staff and pupils attended a celebratory assembly to mark their return to Cwmcarn High School in Caerphilly county.
