| Meet the English Department | ||||
| Mr. Fowler, Subject Leader , has been in post for the past ten years. He oversees development in English across the Key Stages and, alongside Mr. Wring, delivers A Level English Literature to our large sixth form cohort; he is also a member of the school’s Leadership Team with particular interest in Literacy development across the school. Mr. Fowler supports a wide range of extra-curricular activities run by the department and also enjoys singing with the staff choir and playing football for the staff team | ||||
| Mr Stone, Assistant Subject Leader , is now in his fifth year at Cwmcarn High and plays a key role in the delivery and design of Key Stage 4 English. He is also heavily involved in the development of Media at Key Stages 4/5 and runs the school magazine, copies of which are available this evening. Mr. Stone is at the forefront of the department’s extra-curricular provision, from theatre visits and Media trips to organizing extra tuition throughout the school day, and is another keen | ||||
| An English and Media Studies teacher who has taught at each Key Stage, Miss Smith is also Head of Year 8 , a key pastoral position within the school. She has been a member of department for eleven years and is fully involved in the development of schemes of work and literacy strategies. With her colleagues, Miss Smith contributes to the department’s extra-curricular provision and recently organized theatre visits for our Key Stage 4 learners. Miss Smith is another of our department’s staff choir continent. | ||||
|
Miss Murphy is in her third year at Cwmcarn High and teaches both Media Studies and English across the Key Stages. She is also engaged in transition work with primary school colleagues and, last year, took a leading role in developing our Key Stage 2-3 bridging unit. Miss Murphy helps organize our extra-curricular, “KS3 English Club” and, aside from her teaching timetable, will often be found in her classroom helping individuals and groups of learners with their studies. Once again, she is a member of the staff choir – a department trait, it seems. |
||||
| As Subject Leader of Drama and Key Stage 3/4 English teacher, Mrs. Morgan is another important member of our team. She is also involved in English and Drama extra-curricular provision, organizing theatre visits and managing exciting events such as the annual Disneyland Paris Drama/Media Studies trip. Mrs. Goss, currently deputizing for Mrs. Morgan, joined the department this term and has proved an excellent addition to the team.Our Head teacher, Mrs Peplinski, and Deputy Head, Mr. Wring, are also dedicated members of the English department. | ||||
