Eligibility for free school meals not only gives children access to a nutritious, healthy and / or hot free meal but also to a range of other subsidies (e.g. free uniforms and council discount cards etc.)
Research shows that learners who access a healthy and / or hot meal during their school lunch break are “more attentive in afternoon lessons, and are fit to learn”. Some data suggests that GCSE performance can be raised by two grades when learners access a healthy and / or hot school meal.
