Dear Parent / Carer,
As your child nears the end of year 10 we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some key points. Next year is a crucial time as we will be finishing controlled assessment (coursework) in most subjects, and preparing for GCSE examinations.
With this in mind we have arranged for a series of mock exams to take place in English and Mathematics on the 18 and 19 June.

Gwent Cup
Congratulations to our Sixth Form footballers who are through to the Gwent Cup Finals. The matches have now been postponed until 3rd June at Risca Welfare.
Year 11 reminder
A reminder to all Year 11 learners - you are expected to attend normal lessons in between examinations, until half-term. Following this you will be advised of specific revision sessions which you will be expected to attend alongside the examinations.
PGL Adventure Weekend Osmington Bay 2014
Last Friday lunch time 78 very excited Year 8 and 9 learners left Cwmcarn for Osmington Bay in Weymouth, Dorset. Along with 6 staff, the learners spent the weekend at a PGL adventure centre where they enjoyed many exciting activities. As well as archery, rock climbing and a find the flag hunt all of the learners enjoyed abseiling, zip wire, aero ball and the very popular giant swing!
Congratulations to Owen Emmanuel
Former learner, Owen Emmanuel, will perform at the Glastonbury Festival. Owen's mother told us that Owen 'first took an interest in music in Cwmcarn' and she is very proud of his success. Owen is the drummer in the band called Rusty Shackle and they also have a US tour to look forward to.

Revision Guide - Letter from Mr. Morgans
Dear Parents / Guardians,
All learners in Year 11 were issued with this document several weeks prior to Easter, and a modified version was available on email request prior to their mock examinations. In the document is some advice for revision, as well as timetables for them to plan their revision and worksheets to breakdown each subject into topics to assist their revision planning.

On Wednesday 7th, Thursday 8th and Friday 9th May, ALL year 7,8 and 9 learners will be sitting their Literacy and Numeracy tests.
Please ensure that you ALL attend EVERY test.
Each learner will complete THREE tests
- Literacy Test
- Numeracy test
- Numerical Reasoning Test

Dear all,
I want to reiterate and support the letter that Mrs Peplinski released yesterday. I can confirm that the concerns were also reported to the Governing Body and we are delighted with the way in which everyone responded ‘swiftly’. There are clear measures, policies and protocols in place to ensure that everyone is safe and everyone knows how to report any concerns.

Tomorrow’s the big day… “The Jump” where Gemma and I will complete our charity skydive for Ty Hafan…
All of our hard work has paid off: we have raised an incredible £1,541.23. Our target was £1000 and this we have exceeded but it’s all down to the amazing support we have had from you all. On Friday 4th April we held a mufti and fun day. It was an excellent success and we raised £488.97!

Football Festival
On Thursday 27th March, Cardiff City hosted a School Football Festival at House of Sport, Cardiff. The festival ran in conjunction with Cardiff City FC Community & Education Foundation. The Community Foundation targets four different areas where they can look to improve the numbers of people taking part in football. Those different areas are School Participation, Social Inclusion, Football For All and Coach Education.
